Hi There!

I'm Lucy and I am a UX research tutor and career pivot coach based in Melbourne, Australia. I have worked for some of the biggest companies in this part of the world including REA Group, Australia Post, Kmart and SKY TV New Zealand.

I pivoted from law to UX without prior experience in design or research and now I help my clients get their foot in the door in the design industry. I've worked in a variety of environments from startups to agency to corporate and draw from a diverse range of experiences to advice on what kinds of environments would best suit your strengths.

I write about mental health (https://medium.com/@lucy.xie.nz) and have a special interest in self-care in UX and avoiding the hazards you might encounter in your career.

I have helped my clients upskill and land jobs in:

  • Design or UX research

  • Product Design

  • Service Design

I offer private coaching for those who want to get into the design industry. I also teach research skills. Let’s have a chat to find out what I can help you with. You can use this time to discuss any topic that would benefit your career.

Lucy is an attentive, thoughtful coach, who really takes the time to learn your key strengths and opportunities for growth before each session.

She has a deep knowledge of UX research and design as a discipline and career path.

When I was ready to transition into a career in this space, she helped me understand the role of different professionals in this ecosystem and where my ‘fit’ could be, based on my strengths and interests.

he also gave such helpful and precise feedback on my application – including my case study – which helped me land a job!

I have been working with Lucy for a little over a year now, and one of the many reasons I continue to work with her is because of how she can help to break down a research task I need support in and guide me through any context I may need to complete it and ensure I leave with an understanding of how to work on it myself.

On top of research tutoring, she also guided me through transitioning into research internally. Without her guidance, It would have taken me longer, and I could have made several mistakes, but the context she shares from her past experience has helped me have productive conversations and execute projects successfully.

I’ve been working with Lucy for almost 2 years now and she’s been an incredible coach and cheerleader growing me from a junior to mid-senior UX researcher.

Specifically, Lucy’s coaching has been invaluable in refining my interview skills and case study presentations, directly helping me land 2 full-time permanent roles in UX research and UX design.

From the start, Lucy asks the right questions to understand your current career context, personal circumstances, and career goals to set the coaching up for success.
